Change is Here!
December 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment
For all of those of you who are sort of wistfully wondering in the salad days of the Obama transition team, “dude, where’s my change?” here you go! Via the WaPo and Jezebel:

Jon "No Relation" Favreau Exemplifying Change
When Sam Cooke intoned “Change is Going to Come,” do you think that this is what was meant? Regardless, change is certainly here. Jon Favreau (no relation to Jon “Iron Man” Favreau) is intelligent, young, perhaps a speech writer you’d like to chastely discuss the finer points of prose with? Certainly a change for this country. This is the kind of dull, not so scandalous, Facebookery that will come with the new administration of digicam wielding millennials.
Speaking of which, I have a digital camera, a blog that I may come to regret at some medical school interview and a penchant for cardboard cutouts, where is my job, please? I’ll take Secretary of Fierrrrrrce! Or HHS.

And they mention dinosaurs!

P.S. For all of you getting here through the ‘flirg’ tag, the most reliable or plausible things that I’ve seen are ‘First Lady Is Really Gay’ and ‘First Lady Is Really a Guy’. Though I’ve also seen ‘First Lady I’d Rather Get elected’, but that’s not something Clinton/Poehler would want people to stop calling her. Plus, where’s the ‘e’?

A Response to the GOP Jabs at Community Organizing
September 5, 2008 · 4 Comments
I thought I would give a shout out to a blog that has sprung up in response to the jabs Palin, Giuliani and Pataki took at community organizing the other night. I’m guessing some of you saw it or have heard about it by now, but it really just seemed strange. I would think that, in planning a speech, a politician might consider whether or not they are denigrating an entire profession and segment of the population. And on top of that, whether or not that segment of the population might have political influence or work with large numbers of people (like most community organizers do). But I guess this wasn’t considered.

Lady Problems
September 4, 2008 · 1 Comment
The IT Crowd tackles Lady Problems. Not Sara Palin, but maybe they’ll have an episode about that in the new season. Start at about 3:40 and go to about 5:20 to get the best of “that time of the month” euphemisms that British TV has to offer. Watch the whole episode if you’ve got the time. There’s still a fabulous dance party yet to come!

GOB’s final countdown, Sesame Street style
September 1, 2008 · 2 Comments
I found it!!! The previously mentioned Will Arnett segment from Sesame Street has finally surfaced on the internet (thank you person who TiVoed it). Unfortunately Arnett’s entrance and first trick are absent. To fill you in on the missing section: the entrance music is reminiscent of GOB’s theme song from Arrested Development, and I’ll give away the secret to his first trick, he uses addition…

Best. Show. Ever.
August 28, 2008 · 3 Comments
So in the midst of watching Shear Genius last night I was scanning around during a break, ya know, to find a show I could half pay attention to and flip to during commercials, and found the BEST SHOW EVER.
Premise: Pick two Jurassic era creatures that could have encountered each other in their natural habitats, get awesome nerdy paleontologists to explain in depth info of the two, then, turn the paleos into commentators and have the creatures battle it out!
Hello, awesome!
Last night it was a Megalodon vs Brygmophyseter. Essentially, a 50ft predecessor of the Great White Shark and a pod of ginormous biting sperm whales. The show is great. Really, c’mon, it is done by the History Channel, they’ve got super nerdy dinosaur studiers on it, the graphics are good, and they have dinosaurs fighting! What more can you ask for?
Perhaps my new favorite love has emerged…

Phantasmagoria, Dream and Fever. Or, My Mom is Awesome.
August 21, 2008 · 3 Comments
So, my mom is an amazing writer. She submits stuff, wins prizes, but has never pursued it full-time, because of money, raising moi, etc. I wanted to share with you all something that she wrote for a traveling exhibit at the Democratic National Convention in our homecity of Denver in about, oh two minutes. I love it. I reminds me of one of my favorite poets, Nobel laureate Derek Walcott in his piece A Far Cry from Africa when he writes: (more…)
