Zack Morris has a new haircut…

August 8, 2008 · 1 Comment

…and it ain’t so hot. I’ll take the blonde spikes/wave over this any day. I’m really not quite sure what is going on here. Apparently it’s for his new role in TNT’s Raising The Bar, which begins airing this fall. Another courtroom drama, yay. Actually, I was starting to run out of Law & Order episodes that I hadn’t seen, so hopefully they start airing this new series as reruns between 3pm and 5pm every day.

In the Kelly Kapowski days.

In the courtroom days.

Hmmmm, on second thought, I’m not so fond of either cut. We should send him to Charlie on Shear Genius.

girls kissing girls kissing girls

July 24, 2008 · 5 Comments

Right now in Santa Barbara the ‘it’ song that is currently being played on repeat here is “I Kissed A Girl” by Katy Perry. She apparently used to live in Santa Barbara and appears to be the darling of the music people here. Though I don’t give much props to these ‘music people’ at anytime. I’m not sure what the rest of the world is doing, but it seems like there is no other new music out there, just her’s. Yay for the bubble I live in.

One might think this song could possibly be some sort of girl power experience, but really, in my opinion, it is quite a marketing ploy. This is a song written for the males of the world. It isn’t about a girl expressing her sexuality, sorry, it is about her getting drunk and making out with some girl she doesn’t know. The reason you know it is expressly written to attract the male population are the lines ‘I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it’ and ‘ It’s not what, good girls do/Not how they should behave’. Now the males listening (and now reading) think, ‘No, I don’t mind, I encourage’. And I’m sorry, good girls kiss other girls, too. Also, after hearing the song, it becomes very likely those of the male persuasion will peruse the internet to find the video. Which, by the way, is horrible.

Stealing a suggestion from Glitterati Gossip, check out Jill Sobule’s song of the of the same title for a much more emotional and realistic song. And frankly, Sobule has ridiculously better lyrics for all her songs.

But good job for Katy Perry’s marketing people, yay capitalism!

People and Their New York Dreams

July 16, 2008 · 4 Comments

So, can we be mean yet? I’ll start!

In the span of a 10 minute walk in Williamsburg (down Bedford and past the park) the other day, I overheard TWO different conversations where the people were trying to figure out how they could get their music out there and MAKE IT BIG (well, they didn’t say “make it big” but it was implied?). LAAAAMMMEEE. At one point I got stuck behind these two guys talking about how record labels work and how to put out their own cds as promo tools and/or record label bait. I wanted to shoot myself in the head the entire time.

Also, as a bonus, on the subway ride down there a group of 3 actors got on and sat in front of me and preceded to talk about acting stuff, including a story by one dude in which he namedropped “Michael Douglas’s son” about 15 times.

Why can’t everyone be as cynical as us and resign themselves to decidedly unglamorous jobs like public health?
