Because this makes me happy…
BOOMBOX from Ely Kim on Vimeo.
Personal faves are days 4, 7, 13, 15 (for the shirt, which reappears on day 92), 23, 26, 28, 36 (his jacket is spectacular), 37 (very MJ-esque in RocK With You), 56, 62, 69!!!, 80, and 87.
Interesting how student art galleries look the same everywhere you go (good times at UCSB, good times). Though I do admit, Yael’s facilities as a whole look quite a bit nicer than what I had access to. I like how you can tell he goes home over the holidays (I’m guessing somewhere in SoCal) cause he goes from wearing heavy jackets to t-shirts.
See the list of songs used here.

There She Is…

I always, always think that lady politicians and first lady de facto politicians always get too much flak for their fashion. Michelle Obama’s fabulous, but arm-bearing sheaths (gasp! the lady has arms!). Hillary Rodham-Clinton’s primary color pantsuits (and the woman got it SO much worse when she was in the white house…only the cast of Friends, Farah Fawcett, and Bo Derek got so much hair talk!). Barbara Bush’s gumball pearls and Queen Mother styling. Christine Todd Whitman’s failure to find that perfect balance between the feminine and the political (spoiler alert: there is balance, ladies. they happen to be mutually exclusive in the US of A. it’s a game you can’t win.).
But this. Is. Amazing. Attention must be payed.
So, you can have it all. I feel a Grand Old Party/National Riffle Association collaboration calendar coming on here! Jindal, put on the Old Glory Speedo in service of your country. And maybe you could be fixing our broken borders, which might require some sort of tool belt?
Can I just say that Alaska, the Second Amendment, and Family Planning are having the Best Week Ever?

Afrikan Apparel
August 19, 2008 · 2 Comments
Pervy, porny vertical manufacturery is no longer confined to solid colors or gold lamé monotony. Charney and friends have integrated cultural appropriation with their sexplotation, so you no longer have to choose.
Meet Afrika, a lovely, young, vaguely ethnic, sort of makes you think of your one hippie friend who loves African dance and/or drumming and/or orphans type of print. Hip, fresh, and boldly going where fashion goes after its tired of vaguely Arab scarves and styles. Like the Ottoman Empire before them, Amerikan Apparel is going to Afrika.
However, I still have questions. Why isn’t this line part of the Red campaign? Doesn’t AA care about Africa with a “c”? Where is the children’s chorus/Ladysmith Black Mambazo/Zulu warrior? And where, oh where, are the the Africans? In Park Slope and Williamsburg, I’ll bet.

Full disclosure: I think the Red campaign is silly (sorry, Bono!) but if you’re going to make crappy, reddish, African-y type stuff, pay your dues, at least!
