Because this makes me happy…

BOOMBOX from Ely Kim on Vimeo.

Personal faves are days 4, 7, 13, 15 (for the shirt, which reappears on day 92), 23, 26, 28, 36 (his jacket is spectacular), 37 (very MJ-esque in RocK With You), 56, 62, 69!!!, 80, and 87.

Interesting how student art galleries look the same everywhere you go (good times at UCSB, good times). Though I do admit, Yael’s facilities as a whole look quite a bit nicer than what I had access to. I like how you can tell he goes home over the holidays (I’m guessing somewhere in SoCal) cause he goes from wearing heavy jackets to t-shirts.

See the list of songs used here.

Liveblogging: Obama, McCain Shutdown Morningside

September 11, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Hey Friends,

I’m here at Columbia’s historic Morningside campus observing the leadup to the possibly historical discussion between presidential hopefuls and senators (question: who’s watching the senate if everyone’s gone?) Barack Hussein Obama and John Sidney McCain III. Oh, and Bollinger will be there too. There’s a jumbotron set up for all of us peons who didn’t get in by lottery or birth rite. Currently blank, but the masses have begun to assemble and stare at the looming, blank screen. Sooooo many people have gathered, like, an appropriate number for a protest, if Columbia protested. I guess this is more of a power-elite flash mob. Anyways, a few blocks and shut down, many campus entrances, and both GED and ESL testing services have been canceled (you need a Columbia ID to get even close to the wrought-iron fence). So many metaphors for Americana here.

But, I’m hopeful that something magical will happen. I’m hoping that, since this is not meant to be a debate, that reason may co-exist with rhetoric. Especially today, when, collectively there is much to think about and discuss.

Ok, off to class. See you at the after party!

Mark-Paul Gosselaar’s Oeuvre

August 10, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Best PSA Ever

Best PSA Ever

Mark-Paul Gosselaar as a buff, brunette swimmer (his true and just hair color) and 1st amendment-loving, sorority-hating, school paper-editing NERD.  Hillary Swank as a pithy, righteous, relecutant soror who wins our hearts in the end.   Jenna von Oy (Six!) doing, well, her thing. “The stacks” as a sexy place to be!

On my B movie rating scale, this movie is way better than The Skulls (which made it to theaters, for some reason) but perhaps not quite good as Fear (aka the other Mark’s Oeuvre).  This movie made me believe that college would be AWESOME.

For Great Justice!

For Great Justice!

Unfortunately, I can’t find a suitable picture of his tall, dark, and handsome brooding glory (shirt on, shirt off, whatever).  So, you’ll have to rent and watch the movie (Netflix has it!).
