Because this makes me happy…

BOOMBOX from Ely Kim on Vimeo.

Personal faves are days 4, 7, 13, 15 (for the shirt, which reappears on day 92), 23, 26, 28, 36 (his jacket is spectacular), 37 (very MJ-esque in RocK With You), 56, 62, 69!!!, 80, and 87.

Interesting how student art galleries look the same everywhere you go (good times at UCSB, good times). Though I do admit, Yael’s facilities as a whole look quite a bit nicer than what I had access to. I like how you can tell he goes home over the holidays (I’m guessing somewhere in SoCal) cause he goes from wearing heavy jackets to t-shirts.

See the list of songs used here.

American Gastronomics

This is as much of an anti-public health blog as you can get. So mind-blowing. Also, I’m not gonna lie, I would probably eat a lot of the food featured.

Talk about change…

January 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment

It would be silly of me to try and write something about a man who was a wordsmith and orator of utter greatness. So here’s a simple link to give you some clips and words about the man and by the man.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

And they mention dinosaurs!

P.S.  For all of you getting here through the ‘flirg’ tag, the most reliable or plausible things that I’ve seen are ‘First Lady Is Really Gay’ and ‘First Lady Is Really a Guy’.  Though I’ve also seen ‘First Lady I’d Rather Get elected’, but that’s not something Clinton/Poehler would want people to stop calling her.  Plus, where’s the ‘e’?

Best. Show. Ever.

August 28, 2008 · 3 Comments

So in the midst of watching Shear Genius last night I was scanning around during a break, ya know, to find a show I could half pay attention to and flip to during commercials, and found the BEST SHOW EVER.

JURASSIC FIGHT CLUB!!!

Premise: Pick two Jurassic era creatures that could have encountered each other in their natural habitats, get awesome nerdy paleontologists to explain in depth info of the two, then, turn the paleos into commentators and have the creatures battle it out!

Hello, awesome!

Last night it was a Megalodon vs Brygmophyseter. Essentially, a 50ft predecessor of the Great White Shark and a pod of ginormous biting sperm whales. The show is great. Really, c’mon, it is done by the History Channel, they’ve got super nerdy dinosaur studiers on it, the graphics are good, and they have dinosaurs fighting! What more can you ask for?

I am so there

I am so there

Perhaps my new favorite love has emerged…

Government-Issued Comic Books

August 27, 2008 · 1 Comment

So, there was this one time when I was at work about two years ago and I stumbled upon the fact that the Federal Reserve Bank made comic books. Right. I was shocked. But, I love comic books and I love the Fed (Greenspan > Bernanke, obvi), so I order, like 10 of all of them ’cause they’re free. Still have copies, if you all are interested. Wishes and Rainbows and Once Upon a Dime are my favorites. Maybe that can be our first blog give-away!

Anyways, apparently when you order like 50 copies of Fed Comix, they think that you’re some kind of teacher who uses them to like educate, um, kids, or the elderly, or something. Not just some nerd who likes ephemera. So, they send you a survey. And it looks something like this:

Shredded Wheat, I get. This, not so much.

Shredded Wheat, I get. This, not so much.

So, yeah. I’ll let you all know when I get a bag of shredded currency from the Fed (?!). Or a gym bag.

Phantasmagoria, Dream and Fever. Or, My Mom is Awesome.

August 21, 2008 · 3 Comments

So, my mom is an amazing writer. She submits stuff, wins prizes, but has never pursued it full-time, because of money, raising moi, etc. I wanted to share with you all something that she wrote for a traveling exhibit at the Democratic National Convention in our homecity of Denver in about, oh two minutes. I love it. I reminds me of one of my favorite poets, Nobel laureate Derek Walcott in his piece A Far Cry from Africa when he writes: (more…)

I have two ears and a heart, don’t I?

July 26, 2008 · 3 Comments

So, Ferrrosha and I were talking yesterday about unironically loving Phil Collins. My favorite Phil Collins song and video is “Easy Lover”. It’s so ’80s it kills me. Here it is, courtesy of youtube:

My favorite part is the part where the dorky white guy (Phil Collins) is trying to learn dance moves from his New Black Friend (Philip Bailey).
